- 39,999-48,000 USD / Year
Job Description:
If you want to spend your days on a 12-acre film campus, camera in hand and editing great short videos, surrounded by filmmakers, chaos, and great stories, this might be your spot.
Filmmakers Ranch in OKC is looking for a self-starting shooter-editor to capture the life of the Ranch:
- Social media content (short-form vertical, reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts)
- Mini documentaries about the people and projects on campus
- EPKs (electronic press kits) for productions shooting at the studio
- A new interview series on indie film budgets with special guests from across the film world
Who We Are:
Filmmakers Ranch is a 12-acre indie film campus and creative community in Oklahoma City.
On site we've got:
- Sound stages
- Standing sets
- Oklahoma's largest film equipment rental house
- Certified Dolby Atmos mix room
And pretty much everything an indie production needs to make an amazing film...
Productions come here to shoot. Crews train here. Filmmakers hang out here. We created a place where storytellers can work, learn, and collaborate and we want you capturing that world from the inside.
What You'll Be Doing:
This is a hands-on, run-and-gun filmmaker role. On any given week, you'll be:
Shooting BTS & campus life
Behind-the-scenes content on our stages, backlot, classrooms, and events Mini docs about the people, productions, and strange little stories that happen around the Ranch
Editing our Indie Film Budget Interview Series
Cutting a recurring series where guests break down real indie film budgets. Shaping episodes into engaging, educational content for filmmakers. Creating short-form social hooks and cutdowns from each episode
Creating EPK & promo content
EPK-style coverage for films and series shooting at our studio (interviews, BTS, b-roll, social cutdowns)
Following our founder, Richard Janes
Capturing content as he sits down with filmmakers, grows the studio, and pulls back the curtain on running a film campus. Occasionally traveling with Richard to Los Angeles and to film festivals/markets like Cannes and AFM, filming in a Gary Veestyle, documentary way. Turning that access into content that shows where the film industry stands today, who's defining its future, and where the opportunities are.
Crafting social-first edits
Cutting engaging social media pieces: strong hooks, smart pacing, scroll-stopping opening frames, and fun transitions. Experimenting with new formats, ideas, and story angles to see what resonates with our community
You'll be trusted to spot stories, shoot them, and shape them in the edit. Don't expect a mentor to be standing over your shoulder. This is your playground. It is up to you to shine.
Tools & Skills Were Looking For:
We don't care about official qualifications. We care about what you can make.
You should be comfortable with:
- Shooting high-quality video on iPhone and/or DSLR/mirrorless
- Capturing clean location sound (interviews, verité, room tone, basic mic technique)
- Editing confidently in Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro or DaVinci
- Doing basic color correction and audio sweetening to get a polished, professional feel
You live and breathe social content, so you understand:
- How to craft a great hook in the first 13 seconds
- Why cutting rhythm and pacing matter
- How opening frames can stop someone scrolling
- How to use transitions, text, and sound to keep people watching
- The difference between a nice video and a shareable, save-worthy one
Bonus points if:
- You're comfortable shooting in fast-paced, unpredictable environments (festivals, markets, events)
- You have (or can get) a valid passport and are excited by occasional travel
- Most importantly, you're resourceful. If you don't know something, you look it up, figure it out, and try it.
Who You Are (Personality & Vibes):
We only care about two big things:
Your Work
- You've made things you're genuinely proud of short films, reels, docs, vlogs, BTS, anything.
- Your portfolio shows taste, story sense, and effort. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it has to feel you and show real potential.
Your Energy
- You're positive, kind, and good to be around on long days.
- You want to grow your filmmaking career and see this as a launchpad, not just a job.
- You love being part of a community cheering others on, helping out, and being helped.
- You're proactive: you don't wait to be told what to shoot; you pitch ideas and go grab them.
Compensation & How We Work:
Were an indie film studio read: low budget, not Warner Bros pay scale.
This will suit someone early in their career or wanting to make a shift who wants serious access to the indie film world and a great community more than a corporate salary.
Starting Salary range: approximately $40,000-$48,000 per year, depending on experience and portfolio.
For those of you looking at this from places like California and New York, its worth noting that Oklahoma City is one of the best-kept secrets for creatives: the overall cost of living is roughly ~50% lower than Los Angeles, which means your paycheck goes farther immediately. Typical rent is around $1,000 - 1,375/month in OKC and homeownership is dramatically more attainable (OKCs median home sale ~ $271K vs LA ~ $1.02M ~276% higher in LA). Add in a city with very little traffic, award winning restaurants, great sports (Thunder, LA Dodgers farm team) and co-hosting the 2028 Olympics with Los Angeles (yep, how cool is that),
OKC is a place you can live well, build your future, and stay creative.
And you may not realize it but Oklahoma is no longer 'up-and-coming' in the film world, its working: Paramount+ has brought shows like Tulsa King into the state, Apple-backed tentpoles like Killers of the Flower Moon were shot here, and Disneys ecosystem has showcased Oklahoma stories through FX/Hulu with hits like Reservation Dogs and The Low Down. Just as importantly, the indie lane is thriving too - A24s Minari was shot here as was LiveNation's upcoming GreenDay movie New Years Rev all alongside a growing slate of home-grown films that keep crews busy and let people move up faster than they ever could in larger markets.
You'll live and breathe building this indie film studio with us and be part of the history books charting a new way of making movies.
In return, you get flexibility and trust:
This position falls under our results-oriented workplace, not a clock-in/clock-out position.
You'll manage your own time and output: there'll be some long shoot days and occasional weekends, and some quieter edit days where you can schedule yourself long weekends to balance out the crazy weeks.
We offer unlimited vacation/time off, as long as the work is happening, deadlines are met, and you manage your schedule like a responsible adult.
Location & Relocation:
This is an on-site role at Filmmakers Ranch in Oklahoma City (not live-in).
We welcome applications from anywhere as long as you're willing to relocate and hold a valid US work visa or are a US Citizen.
Well help you find accommodation and plug you into our indie film community crew, directors, actors, and misfit storytellers who've made OKC home.
What We Offer:
A front-row seat (and backstage pass) to a working film studio on a 12-acre campus
Constant opportunities to shoot real people doing real creative work
A supportive, no-ego environment where your ideas are genuinely welcome
Room to grow into bigger projects and bigger responsibilities as the Ranch expands
Occasional travel to major film hubs and festivals/markets for real-world access you cant get in a classroom
Access to stages and equipment for your own short films
A community where its completely normal to find people around a firepit after hours, talking shots, swapping scripts, planning short films, and setting up script reads not sprinting to the car the second the clock hits 6pm
